Most people abuse drugs to run or hide from their problems.
The most common drugs are tabacco and alcohol which are legall and a big problem. Because they are legall they are the most easeist to get.
Today underage drinking is a major problem.
Most underage drinkers and smokers get their alcohol and ciggarettes from older sibling, friends, and family members.
Another commonly used drug is marijuana, wich is illegal but not as harmfull as alcohol and tobacco.
There is no proof of any death caused by marijuana.
About 30-40 million people have used illegal drugs within the last year.
Around 12.7 million people have used illegal drugs within the past month.
Of the 12.7 million, 10 million are casual drug users, while the other 2.7 million are addicts.
300% more americans die from prescription drugs than illegal drugs.
In 2007 illegal drugs like cocain, and heroin killed 989 people.
In that same year, prescrition drugs like oxycotton, vicodin, and anti depressants caused2,328 deaths.
All the info in these facts is really shocking. What really shocking is that people die from perscription drugs a lot more than illegal ones.

ReplyDeleteI think the prescription drug point you made is a really big deal. I am aware of a few people who have almost died from them. I hope you add a post specifically about the prescription drug issue and add some statistics for us to think about and comment about. Try to add a though provoking question for your readers to comment about.

ReplyDeleteI agree with Norbert, I think a lot of people look past the abusing of prescription drugs. When people think of drug abuse, you think of marujuana, cocaine, and other drugs. But the biggest problem in the U.S. has proved to be prescription drugs.

ReplyDeleteYes prescription drugs are easy to get and are abused alot. We need to focus on lessening the number of meds we give out and securing them at our houses with better locks to keep away from family and Teenagers.

ReplyDeleteI don't think that people realize how bad drugs really are for them. Many drugs are easy to get and buy but they shouldn't be. I know a few people that have overdosed and died from prescription drugs.
ReplyDeleteThese facts are not surprising, drug abuse is a big problem. There needs to be more moderation in who the prescription drugs are going to, and maybe not in such large amounts.

ReplyDeleteDrug is bad is really hurting the people that are abusing them. Drug abuse and illegal drugs should be stop. Doctors and hospitals should be on alert for perception drug abuse.
ReplyDeleteperception drugs useage is a big probelem, A main probelem is people who have a perscription decide that instead of takeing the drugs for the medical reason they were perscribed for, they either sell them or take them in a large ammount and OD.

ReplyDeleteMy favorite actor died of a drug overdose on Halloween 1993. Since then, I have been dreading Halloween. Also, I don't like health class because I'm sensitive to drugs and anything related to drugs.
